Hi, Just finishing putting my Cooey mod.82 back to original full stock and peep sight and now I have a couple of questions.
Mine has a rear sight on the barrel, did the cadet rifles with the peep sight have the dovetail cutout in the barrel for the leaf sight? Is there a sort of plug for the cutout after the sight is removed? Last question, Has anyone here seen the dummy magazine for this rifle? I have a diagram with measurements for the magazine, just wondering how common they were and how they look on the rifle, I would love to see a picture.

This subject was discussed in this forum a couple weeks ago ( including the mil spec drawing for the wooden magazine). I was CO of local Army Cadet Unit until I reached my 65th birthday this past summer. Our support unit in Trenton issused us a couple deactivated Cooey's DP's when we had to return our No 7 "shooters". They had the wooden mags attached and I thought they looked like "crap" and got them replaced with some decent looking deactivated No 4's. They were for use in ceremonial parades.

I also own a 82 and have a peep sight which isn't mounted right now. I was wondering whether the military removed the open sight when the peep was mounted . The few pictures I've seen of 82's with the peep mounted all still have the open sight in place.

When I attended High School in the '60's Army Cadets was mandatory and our school had 2 shooting ranges and racks of 82's. We also had 2 Brens which I assume were still functional. I never attended summer traning (Ipperwash) so never had the opportunity to fire a Bren.

There have been a few changes in the school system and Army Cadets over last 40 years. My last few years with our unit the schools asked us not to include DP's with our Flag parties if we were attending a ceremony in the shool.

The Canadian Cadet Movement ( in my opinion) still provides excellant opportunities for Canadian Youth.
