Hi, Just finishing putting my Cooey mod.82 back to original full stock and peep sight and now I have a couple of questions.
Mine has a rear sight on the barrel, did the cadet rifles with the peep sight have the dovetail cutout in the barrel for the leaf sight? Is there a sort of plug for the cutout after the sight is removed? Last question, Has anyone here seen the dummy magazine for this rifle? I have a diagram with measurements for the magazine, just wondering how common they were and how they look on the rifle, I would love to see a picture.

Yes, they all had the dovetail cutout for the rear leaf sight. Many had both the rear leaf sight and peep sight, some had no peep sight and some had the peep but no leaf sight. Of course who knows how many came without whichever sight and how many of them were just taken off. I have seen metal filler plugs in the rear dovetail and others had a little flat plate where the peep sight went if not equipped with one. I have never seen the dummy magazine but I believe I read somewhere one time that they were made out of wood.

The only other Cooey trainer that I am aware of was a prototype that didn't go into production. The 82's have a little hole in the bottom of the stock which is supposed to be to hold a pin for the dummy magazine to stay in place.

It's too bad as I think it looks better.
