Looking for any and all info that you guys have about this model and configuration. Where they accurate? How do I figure out how old it is? Is it safe to shoot modern ammo out of it?
Thanks.

The age cannot be figured out, they never started putting on serial numbers til late 60s. Accurate?....you betcha...in the right hands they will stay with many other brands of rifle....safe for modern ammo?...as stated..load in LR and go to it. Same action as the model 75 but shorter barrel and lighter stock....with a scope mounted on my 75, I was able to shoot 200 yards and even hit skeet clays.

I had to rebarrel one, used a .22 RF from an old Lee Enfield. It is a tack driver once again. Just for kicks I threaded a flash suppressor from a m16!

Can't beat the 39. I have one and so does my oldest daughter (9). My youngest daughter has a rabbit with a home built (shorter) stock. In my opinion, the cooey 39 or 75 are the most accurate rifles built for under $150. Hell, even more accurate than some of their more expensive counterparts.

over time i had 4 of these. keep one. very accurate, simple and reliable. will work with any ammo you put in it short long and LR. clean it lube it and have fun.
39,75 and 82 same thing and good. lots of parts everywhere and part of canadian history
and yes you cant tell how old they are but it makes no difference...

You can date a model 39 fairly close. Made from late 1938 till 1961 when sold to winchester. Is it a Cooey or a Cooey-Winchester? Does it have metal butt plate or plastic? Does it have slot screws or phillips screws in the trigger guard and butt plate? A pic would aslso help date the gun-----Cowboy

Ok, I ran to my gun locker and checked my Cooey Model 78. All the screws are slotted and it has a metal butt plate.

How close can it be aged?

My first gun, Gift from my father for my 12 years old. IT's still a real rabbit killing machine! I rebarrel for a .22 mag, same precision with more power.

I love her

Still have mine from over 50 years ago with a original Weaver 4X scope. Still use it and it is a fantastic gun. The scope limits the true accuracy to about 100 yards only because it won't adjust to a distance past that. Still looks almost new other than finish a little dull from use, very few marks on it as I really treasure it. My first gun and a Christmas present from my mom and dad.

I have a 75, 82, and a 600. All have peep sights. The 600 won't shoot well at all, no matter what you feed it. It is in like new condition and I had the muzzle recrowned but it didn't help. The others shoot extremely well. The 82 has no Cooey markings at all. It just has "Ranger" on the top. The Firearms centre say it is a Ranger made by Ranger.
