I buggered up my old Model 60 Cooey...I admit it.

For the longest time I couldn't figure out how to get the bolt out, so could never give it a proper cleaning. Took it out for the first time this weekend and put a few rounds through it (pleasantly surprised me!).

After gopher shooting, me and a buddy were cleaning the toys, and I mentioned to the girl friends that we couldn't get the bolt out. They bet us they could get it out in under 5min...and they did, and made it look so simple :bangHead:

Gave it a good cleaning, but when I went to reassemble it, it doesn't stay together. Not a complicated action, bolt+firing pin hook onto the trigger, and the magazine hooks onto the front of the bolt so that when it opens the mag pushes the ejector up, and a new round in place.

Problem I'm running in to is that the lug that hooks the mag/ejector into the bolt, will not stay in place. The rifle cycles properly if you hold it upside-down.

Nothing was forced, and everything looks right...kinda looks like the carbon was holding it together.

Any thoughts? I know there are lots of old Cooeys out there, so someone has got to know something

Most of those seem to break down in one of two manners : method one pull trigger, yank bolt back, method 2 undo a screw underneath the action pull trigger, yank bolt back ....

Sounds like you're doing everything right except for tightening the screw, which should be found under the action ...

Last time I worked on a cooey (don't remember what model but it was a bolt action) the screw that had to be backed down was the same as the one that you undo to take the stock off the action ..... Basically a screw within a screw, all attached to the receiver. Inner screw is for the stock, larger, outer screw holds in the bolt.

Hope this helps .... If not, post pics .... I'm sure there's a simple explanation.

I think I know what you're talking about. Of course I suck at explaining, so bear with me. When you took it apart, you spun off the nut on the outside(attached to the trigger guard) removed two screws and done. Then you loosened a nut to make it come apart, right?

When it goes back together, make sure the whatcha macallit:p is in its right position(the part that stays put when the gun is upside down. Tighten the screw into the tube magazine, and back it off a touch. Tighten the nut down and put together.

You might have to play with it for a bit to find the right amount of tension. If it's too tight, the action feels stiff when cycling. If it's too loose, it will cycle smooth like sh!t through a goose and the bolt will come unhooked and go back too far. Good luck.

make sure the whatcha macallit
The outer magazine tube mates to a notch in the lower section of the bolt. Once tightened up, the mag tube moves back and forth with the bolt. By undoing the retaining nut and stockbolt, you are able to drop the mag tube out of the recess in the bolt and in turn remove the bolt.
