Hello to all,
I recently purchased this Cooey model 60. It seems that the barrel is made in stainless steel. I have been searching the net and the in a Cooey guidebook but I cannot find any similar. I would very much appreciate any feedback of yours.

p.s Yes, I maybe be selling it for the right price.. ;)

note : the wood has been painted glossy black. Should I strip it ?

Thank you !
Marcus

If i was to venture a guess, i would say yes, that barrel and action will rust. These guns dont carry a high value, but they are excellent shooters. Some came with some nicely figured stocks. You may be pleasantly surprised if you strip off all the black paint and refinished it properly. I would also suggest rebluing the metal to help protect it from rust.

Ive redone quite of few old Cooey's. They can be quite nice when complete. Im actually in the process of working on a Cooey 60 at the moment myself

Before assuming it's bare carbon steel stripped of it's bluing, is there a chance it has been nickel plated? That would be custom of course, but so is that paint job. Its impossible to tell from the photos, but you could degrease an area and leave a drop of water sitting on it for a while so see if it starts to surface rust. Rust = bare steel.

As suggested, not stainless.

It's a conventional Cooey with the bluing removed. It would be more susceptible to rust than a blued surface, and may take more attention to keep shiny. My Avatar is a Rossi similarly stripped (and then polished). I haven't gotten around to bluing it, and the in-the-white metal has grown on me. Still not rusty after 3 years!

Doing this does not add to the value of a rifle!

Hey guys, you were all dead on ! I degreased a small area, drop some water, a few hours after it was rusted. Ok. got another question, I would like to keep it shinny for now.. what is the best stuff to put on it in order to prevent rust for the time being ? thanks
