What Weaver bases would one require for the top of this model receiver?
Not keen on the scope placement that the number 2 side mount offers up.

Yes, I know drilling and tapping is required.

Who’s done this mod and what did you use for bases?

Cheers

not 100% certain, but try a weaver 24 for fit, the receiver should be close in diameter to a savage mark 11

kamlooky - not sure where I got this chart - maybe from Brownell's at one time - some dimensions of some Weaver bases - seemed to work out to be correct the several times that I have used it - fourth (?) column shows the diameter of the particular base - the underside of it - you would start by measuring your receiver - that diameter or a smidgeon smaller - if a bit smaller, will be only touching on two bottom edges to receiver, but likely flattens out to full contact once screws are snugged up - fairly "redneck", perhaps.

My one and only "on-hand" example - not a Cooey 600, but a Cooey 39 - rather a lot of "fussing" - I used what started as a one piece Weaver 93 base - cut it out for ejection port, cut it off for length at front, drilled new hole towards forward end - used two of the original holes near the rear of the base. I do not remember how I figured out where Top Dead Center was to drill and tap those holes into that round receiver. But it is what it is:

It seems to me that I used a Black Jiffy marker to colour over the shiny aluminum where I had done sawing or filing - is not "anodized".

Correction - on closer inspection, that base is stamped as "92A" - is not a #"93" base.

Easy enough to powder coat base same as doing bullets. Some of the model 600 had factory dovetails cut.

There is a Cooey 60 here and a Cooey 600 - neither have dovetails, but both were drilled and tapped for the Weaver "bent sheet metal" side mount - "N3" - I have those mounted on each - very hard to see through elder Weaver 3/4" body rimfire scopes - was considered to be "improvement" over iron sights at one time. Is confusing - I am not sure the Cooey 60 was drilled and tapped at factory, but read it was a common mod done once the 600 came out, many of which WERE drilled and tapped at factory for side mount. Or, perhaps it was Weaver's introduction of the N3 mount that caused many Cooey 60 to be drilled and tapped by owners?

Side mounts were the go to because the scope needs to be offset to the left as the Cooey ejects shells almost straight up... scopes were unheard of when the first Cooey came off the line.

I did find this for you though.

My Cooey 60 has a drilled receiver and my 600 has the grooves. They had, I think, 3/4" scopes. The 60 has a Tasco and the 600 has a Weaver.

Some good info folks, thanks.

A #1 won’t work.
Weaver calls for a #2.
I fear this is the side mount that doesn’t allow the barrel and scope to sit completely parallel.

Another chap up here has the #3 Weaver mount that came off a 94.
I thought it may work?
It stands more vertical than the other two.

I’ll pass this info forward.

I have a Cooey 60 that I used a weaver 49350 combined with a weaver #1 48401.
Was a direct fit and worked perfectly for installing a 1” scope. Looks and works far better than the old N3 mount and 3/4” scope.
This model 60 had the factory drilled side mount holes.
