Cooey Model 64 confusion

Well I'm hoping that maybe someone here can help remove this cloud of confusion for me. I recently acquired a Cooey Model 64A semi-automatic .22 cal from a friend that had started taking it apart with the intent of refinishing it. I am having issues figuring out if this is a correct 64a or if it's something someone has cobbled together out of spare parts many years ago. I can't find any pictures that even resemble it but I am able to locate pictures with pieces on different models.

The receiver is marked Model 64a, but the magazine (which was missing) looks like it's from a 64b, and then the stock after he stripped the bedliner off it that someone previously applied has checkering and a rabbit on it. I am also missing the screw that holds the receiver and barrel into the stock and can't seem to find a replacement. I know this is not a high dollar rifle but I am kinda fond of these old cooey rifles and they are great for teaching my kids with. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Original model 64 had a plastic magazine that gets brittle and cracks over time. I think the 64A had improvements to bolt with different ejector? And 64B has metal magazine with a different base to hold the new magazine. (Plastic and metal magazines are not interchangeable, there are other parts required to do the conversion). It's a common problem, the plastic magazines are made of Unobtanium , but the metal magazines are still available as they are still used on current Savage models.
I have a spare takedown screw if you need one.

I will get some pictures posted later today, I'm also wondering if I'm missing any other parts as it looks like there may be a plate missing from the bottom of the stock that goes around the mag well.

So it looks to me like someone in the past has already done the magazine conversion then on this one as it has the keyhole style mag well already installed. The friend I received it from took it apart to strip the nasty bedliner style paint someone prior to him had applied. I am definitely missing the lower plate that goes around the magwell on the outside of the stock as well as the larger takedown screw, and the rear sight elevator.

Not sure if this applies, but I recently had a 64 that had to be scrapped because it came apart in a vehicle and someone attempted to re-assemble it without the U shaped piece shown in Kamlooky's photos. When this happened, the receiver and screw were stripped, rendering it a parts rifle. The piece was later found, but too late. Fortunately, someone on here could use the pieces.

I could see not having that u-shaped piece being a little catastrophic as it holds the barrel to the receiver as well. I think my biggest saving grace is my friend didn't attempt to take apart the action or barrel.

That U piece needs to be trimmed down for the mag well update to work.
There is a thread on here someplace showing it.
I've have a photo, but it ain't the best.
Another CGN'r has done this mod and his photos were better at showing the
differences.

Thank You Gentlemen for the Information and especially Kamlooky for the pictures. I managed to find all the missing pieces I required this past weekend at the gun show. I have reassembled the rifle, now to address the feed issue. I was missing the magazine and picked up a magazine from Wholesale that was supposed to be for these rifles, it fits the well just fine, but when it attempts to feed a round into the chamber it only appears to lift the round halfway to the chamber and then jams. I have heard that others have had issues with the replacement magazines but I can't find any nformation on what people have done to resolve the issue.

Is the bolt sliding freely?
Those two bottom Philips have a washer under them and
a thread too long could/may cause them to rub slightly on the bottom
of the bolt.
Another thing is the barrel U retainer.
Sometimes the barrel is slightly twisted one way or t'uther putting a wee
bit of pressure on the ejector/extractor grooves slowing things down.
Others have stated too much oil seems to fruck things up.
Ammo can make a difference too.
You state you purchased a detach mag.................new?

The rifle had already had the mag conversion done to it before my friend even got it and it worked fine with the mag that he lost. I purchased a new replacement mag from Wholesale sports that was supposed to work on these model 64's and it fits fine, and bolt operates correctly. When the bolt grabs the round out of the magazine to feed it into the chamber, the round tends to not lift the nose high enough to enter the chamber and jams the action as the nose of the round is too low. I have tried about 10 different types of ammo and have this same issue almost like the mag is tilted forward maybe?

A friend just bought a brand new Savage 64, one of the higher models.

At the range, it jammed over and over with hollow points.
With round nose it worked a lot better.

Kind of sad really.

This is how my old one works and I have 8 different mags. It sucks at shooting hollow points. Useless gun IMO.

I just think it's weird how with the original magazine my friend had he never had a problem, but I purchase a new magazine and it has feed issues. reading on the different forums this seems to be a common problem with these magazines. It's very disappointing considering the rest of the rifle is now in nice shape, really didn't want to turn it into a safe filler.
