I've got an old 64 that's kinda giving me a hard time. I took it all apart and found it hadn't been cleaned in the last 40 years. I'm still having the same problem, the gun won't re-#### after firing. If I take it apart I can get it to #### every time I pull back on the bolt, but it won't cycle after I fire it with real ammo in it. Is there a manual online for these? The sear seems to be a little worn, this might be the issue? I fired around 60 shots this afternoon and then this all of a sudden happened and the cleaning didn't help. Thanks.

Give Shooter's den a call and ask for a new trigger mech.
If it's that old and never cleaned the carbon would have combined with the oil to act as an abrasive paste and worn thing's down pretty quickly, over 40 year's.

The trigger did look pretty worn, I'll drop by and show it to Denis and see what he thinks. I don't think it's the ammo, because my son and I shot it lots before it crapped out and it's decent ammo, Federal bulk. I hope the parts aren't much, I think I can buy a brand new Savage 64 for less than $200....

I adore my 64's!

They can be finicky though...When firing live ammo, does it extract, and eject the first round? Does it feed the second? There are lock washers on the screws holding trigger group/magwell...if they are not there, the screws can get deep enough into the action to bind the bolt. If you can get it to #### by hand, there is no reason ammo shouldn't be able to.

General Cooey/Lakefield/Savage 64 trivia:
They must be clean. Get used to taking it apart every 500-1000 rds (You can extend this by flushing with brake cleaner, and manually cycling it). Run it dry...lubricate for storage/rust prevention, not for "use". They can be fussy eaters, mine likes anything CCI, Federal champions (most of the round nosed ammo). You may have to try a few different kinds.
