The local gun shop has a Cooey Model 71 in 308 Win which was taken on trade. I understand they were made at the Cobourg plant for a short period of time. It appears well made if somewhat plain (like most old Cooey's). It is in very good condition. Only downside is we couldn't get the bolt release to work. Next move was to pull it from stock to check the problem. Probably minor- seemed to be binding on something. Anybody got any background info and/or an estimated value? I'm not interested but I think it would make an excellant "hard use" economical hunting rifle if the price was right.

Thanks for any feedback

If the bore looked good and I believed that bolt release problem was a cheap and easy fix, I'd take a chance on it for something under $300. Over that, a comparison with a new Stevens 200 listing at under $400 + tax would put me off.

If someone is willing to pay more than I am for the old Cooey because they like old guns and/or wood better or they like the history, I don't say they are wrong to pay some extra to get what they particularly like.
