So the last time my kids shot the gun, they somehow lost the entire bolt/cocking assembly and put it away like that. I haven’t been able to find it in the last year. Is the gun scrap now?

You can probably find a bolt. Many were made. May or may not fit. All were fitted when the rifles were made, so they are not interchangeable.

Ha! Age-old dilemma! You just know that three days after the rifle leaves in a dumpster, the bolt will show up!! Or, hang on to the rifle for 35 years and the bolt still does not show up!!

Well, the FB guy no luck with a bolt. Posted a wtb and got a hit from here already, thanks!

Bolt is missing extractor, now on the hunt for info on that one

No worries on fitting a new bolt as the lockup is controlled by the root of the bolt handle. If it's too tight to close, then carefully file the rear face of the bolt root to get a smooth, snug fit. If the replacement bolt be too loose, then a weld buildup on that root face followed by a file down to fit will correct it.
When fit testing, use a fired case in the chamber to ensure decent headspace.

I swapped out the bolt on my Model 39 in 1973 using a Swiss needle file & 400 grit paper to get it fit. It's been running smooth & reliable ever since. ;)
