Just picked this up today at the Woodstock gun show

Very nice. Is there a military serial number stamped into the bottom of the pistol grip? And yes, get some 0000 steel wool and some oil and lightly (keyword is lightly) remove the rust from the bluing. Do not push real hard on the steel wool.
 
More pictures. Whoever stamped the gun did a pretty crappy job. Even the stamp on the stock had to be renumbered. the sling is either 1953 or 1963, hard to read. Does anyone know how late these were kept by the Army/Cadets
