I read a few times about a wooden dummy magazine that was screwed on to the stock of a Cooey Mod. 82 trainer rifle to make it resemble a lee enfield. Has anyone here ever seen one? Would anyone like to post a pic?
When our Cadet unit "lost" our No 7 Lee Enfields we asked for some DP's to use with flag parties and sentry duty at cenotaphs on Remembrance Day etc. Our support base at Trenton issued us with deactivated 82 Cooey's that had both a fake wooden magazine and pistol grip attached. Their original purpose ( I think) was to resemble the FN for rifle drill with Cadet Units. They looked so bad that we refused to use them in public and had them replaced with decent looking deactivated No 4's
When I was in cadets 45 years ago we had both Enfield and the Cooey 82. I don't however remember having the wood magazines on them. I have been told it was something that was used during the war for training.
