Hello all you .22 experts. I got an old cooey model 82 in my hands with peep sights and wearing a Savage butt plate and markings. The rifle came with a peep site, and has a branding mark on the right side of the butstock marked "HGRF with a 6" below the letters. on the pistol grip is branded c3214. Just wondering if it is anything special or just another farm cooey. It is in very good condition.

Thanks for any info.

that's a Canadian military trainer. It should have three C Broad Arrow marks, one on the butt near the number, one on the bolt and one on the top of the receiver ring.

Thanks guy's, but there are a few things that are making me think its not a military trainer. The ones I have seen in the past have a barrel band and front blade sights simular to those off an enfield. This one has a single post with a big round rear peep sight. Also as the brand marks make me think military.....the Savage butt plate with indian head and quality mark makes me think civilian.... I will try and snap some pics of it tomorow after work. It belongs to a friend of mine that is staying here. It would be neet to figure it out though.

The Cooey model 82 with peeps sight was a factory offering by Cooey.

You didn't mention anything about the stock, which was a factory Full length International Style Stock. I would assume that the stock was switched to a Savage stock later on in it's life.

There are two models listed in the FRT date base. One has 470mm & the other 686mm barrel. The rifle should have no serial numbers or ID numbers on the stock in it's original state.

This model was produced in the late 1930. So yes, it's just another farm Cooey, but a nice piece of Canadian History as a military trainer.

Does it have full wood and two barrel bands? They didn't have Savage butt plates...someone may have done some customizing. We can tell instantly when we see some pics. I have an M82 right here to compare...btw, I have a source of parts for you in Ontario.

Here's what a model 82 looks like. As you can see by this copy from Beltons book the 75, 78 and 82 had similar stocks. The 82 was made alot thicker and of course full wood. You likely have a 82 stock with a savage butt plate put on. Do you have all the wood? These have became half assed pricey lately-----Cowboy

I just bought a Model 82 which looks like the one in the picture above. Can someone please tell me the dates of the manufacture of this model and approximately how many were made? I purchased mine at a show this past weekend and it is in beautiful condition. It does not have the peep sights, but I would love to have a set of these sights for the rifle. Thanks for your time.
