hello all, so i have a friend from work ask me about a shotgun he just received from a family member. the markings on it are Cooey Model 84, Corbouro Ont, and there's a serial number on it that's in the 82000. i wont be able to get pictures until after Christmas, but if anyone would have and info that could help me out that would be awesome. im just tryin to figure out the basic info just what year it was made and how much it would be worth.

There are no serial number records. However, the model 84 came out in 1948. It continued for awhile as the model 84 after Winchester took over in 1961 but eventually became the model 840. They are not terribly valuable. A typical pretty nice condition 12 gauge can be had for $100.00-$125.00, less if in poor shape, maybe a bit more if like new condition. The price increases a little if they are smaller gauges. I have seen nice condition .410's sell for $200.00-$250.00. The model 84 in 28 gauge will bring even more if you can find one.
 
In the good old days, kids started with a Cooey single shot 22 and after they could show that they could be trusted with that they graduated to a Cooey shotgun. Most every farm had at least one somewhere to take care of varmints etc. As already stated around a $100 to $125 is its value.
 
If it's an 84 and not an 840, it's probably made in the 50's. Simple, reliable shotgun. I agree with the others ... $125 for very good shape, probably 100 or less if it has the usual rust patina and bumps and knocks on the wood.
 
Your friend has one of the best if not the bast single shot shotgun ever produced in my opinion.I have a 28 gauge Winchester /Coory Model 84(manufactured by Winchester after they purchased Cooey in 1961 and before they changed to the Model 840)that was my first shotgun and still works well today.
