To make a long story short.
I have in my possession an old rusty cooey 840. It hasn't been fired in at least 25 years and has been stored in a dampish space.
However, the gun opens and closes just fine and it cocks and dry fires with no problems.
I figure it's not worth any money and I might as well keep it.
Do you guys think it's safe to fire?
thanks in advance,
dan

If it functions and isn't pitted it's probably okay to fire but that's just a guess. Pictures would tell a more complete story.

The only way to know for sure though is to put in the hands of someone who is knowledgeable about firearm mechanisms and safety.

Hard to say without seeing the firearm , but if it is tight , I doubt if you will have any problems as there is not much to go wrong with those old single shots . If you are concerned , have a gunsmith take a quick look at it.....
