Cooey receiver stripped

Hey.

Problem with my Cooey 64B. I was putting it back together, and the large bolt that holds the barrel onto the receiver got screwed in on a slight angle. :rolleyes: This stripped the receiver, and the bolt will not go in properly. Is there any tricks that I can do to get it to seat properly, or do I need to have the receiver re-threaded. If the latter, where would I get this done?

Can you remove the screw and thread it in the correct way. This may "somewhat" tap the receiver enough for the screw to hold. Maybe a new screw if it's stripped too .... what condition is the screw in?
 
The screw is fine. The threading in the hole that it goes in that is all messed up. I've tried for a coupe hours to get the screw to go in straight, but it always ends up on an angle now.
 
Go to your nearest machine shop with the screw and ask them to measure the diameter and screw pitch for you. You may be able to get a tap locally and just retap the hole.
If that's a no-go, open up the existing hole to the next size fine thread and make a barrel nut out of the correct size stock. Centre drill and tap it for the stock screw.
Some might say JB Weld, who knows, it may be worth a try.
 
Much thanks for the tips. I tried using the screw as that "quasi-tap", and every 1/4-1/5 turn, checked to ensure that the screw was going in straight. When it seemed a bit off, I used a wrench, backed it off a tad, and using some pressure on the wrench in the appropriate direction, screwed it back in that 1/4 turn. It seemed to do the trick, as I was able to get the nut in and screw in the bolt that holds the receiver to the stock.

The bolt isn't 100% into the receiver, but it is in enough that the screw that holds the receiver to the stock (goes into the back of the culprit bolt in question) is screwed in flush with the metal plate on the bottom of the stock, and things aren't moving around. This won't cause anything to explode in my face will it?

Get yourself some Loctite, maybe the red stuff. That'll hold it in there.

... no reason to worry about it blowing up.
 
As long as the bolt is in enough to hold the "u" clip in place as it holds in the barrel to the action. if the barrel is not held tight and in place it could cause a problem. the bolt does touch the barrel in a notch and holds the barrel parallel to the action.
 
I knew someone who had to re-tap the hole out bigger, the ' new' screw was fine threaded, don't remember the size, but he drilled it out and tapped it to accept the screw holding the stock on, he had enough thread to get a jam nut on there, he found he had to split the nut (around the diameter), so he could tension the bolt properly so that it held tight in there. Might be costly unless you have a machinist buddy, otherwise a gunsmith might be able to do it for you. - also you would have to grind out the hole to fit in the clamp piece, iirc it's case hardened or something like that.
