I am looking to put a scope on a refinished Cooey rifle. Am looking to spend around $200-$300 for a scope and mounts. Any thoughts on a good scope to mount and good rings? My rifle shoots very well but I am tired of the stock sights and am looking for optics suggestions. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks fellas.

Cooey Scope Mount

If it isn't grooved for a regular .22 (assuming it's a .22 rifle) mount, you'll have to have the receiver drilled and tapped (if it hasn't already been done) for a side mount. Most of the old mounts were used with a 3/4 inch scope, not a one inch.
I can send you a photograph if you want.

I believe its a weaver#2 side mount and I bought a set of side mount weaver rings for it. The rings are quick detatch type with thumb screws and ran about 50 dollars and are the high ones. I found that on my model 60 that it didn't totally center the scope but was close. Hope this helps. Aaron

Well I mounted a 4X RWS .22/.177 pellet scope on my Cooey 39 last spring. I dropped it off at a gunsmith to have a dovetail milled in the receiver but after 4 months they hadn't gotten around to it yet so I mounted it myself with JB Weld. I had a couple spare aluminum rings which I hacksawed and filed to match the receiver, which I also sanded. Mine groups 10" at 200m, and 2" at 100m on a nice day. The JB Weld is probably more solid then the dovetail anyway.

I have pics, but it's not too pretty. It's an old barn gun, but still shoots magnificently. It's also a good idea to tie a rope onto the end of the bolt so you can still #### it easily.

My rifle is a Cooey Model 39 if this helps things. I know I have to have my gunsmith drill and tap holes to mount a scope, just looking for a good scope and a mount for it.

I put a scope on my 39 so long ago they still believed the world was flat. Weaver K4 with side mount, cost IIRC under 15.00. Still way more accurate then my scoped 10/22.

The 39 I owned did not have "native" holes for a scope...

Were I to scope a 39/75 I would have a smith (and I do most of my own stuff...) "notch" a big 'ol weaver (so my clunky fingers could still load it!) base and, slap itno on the receiver. I'm guessing 15 bucks for such a base and, @ 15$'s/hole the cost comes to about 75 bucks...a serious (+ or -) percentage of the rifle's value.

That said, I'm guessing the rifle will deliver what optics can present! The Cooeys I've had/handled were very acurate
