Hey Guys;

Well, I've never owned one until recently...

An excellent shape 12ga 3" chambered 30" barrel Cooey Winchester 840 with full choke popped up for $200 and I scooped it. I just wish the previous owner hadn't electro-penciled their SIN on the side of the receiver, lol!

I think I did okay & when my wife asked why, I said: "It's a piece of Canadiana & I just wanted it!" She is right though, I'll likely never use it... LOL

What do you have for a Cooey shotgun? Post pics & details!

Cheers
Jay

40 yrs ago I traded for a very good condition Cooey M84 in 28 gauge. Shot a few grouse with it and then put it way for the next 35 yrs. Sold it to a long time good friend for his new born grandson. I know it went to a good home. Only 28 gauge Cooey I've come across in 60 yrs of being a "gun nutz"

The 28ga is by far the least common 84. Now that folks are collecting Cooeys, a crisp 28 would probably bring serious coin.
You don't see many 16s.

I grew up on a farm in southwestern Ont. in the '50's My Dad was a farmer not a hunter but like most farmers he had a couple guns like neighbours.. Most had a 22 and a shotgun. My Dad's guns were a Cooey 16 ga and a M75 Cooey. I started my interest in hunting with those old firearms. My brother still has the old Cooey shotgun. Not in great condition but it was carried a lot of miles in all kinds of weather.

The 410 was the hardest to find but did find one then I decided I needed the rest . The first 28 ga turned out to be a scam as it was in horrible condition when it arrived so had to find another one . Have the 20s in both models and of course many models of the 22s and 25s . The 39 get's used the most as it's scoped . 410 is for raccoons .

I have a Cooey 12 guage model 84 that once belonged to Dennis T Olson the country and western singer / singing Barber. We grew up together. When he was just starting out, he didn't have much money. My dad, did the renovations for his first barber shop. Dad wouldn't take any money because my dad and Dennis's dad were friends. Dennis felt that he should pay something so he gave that Cooey to my dad. Dad died a few years later, when I was 12. I have hung on to the old gun since about 1960. Don't use it but it is there.
Dennis has passed on now, sadly, despite being a very good entertainer, he just never hit the big time!

At present time ,I have two Cooey shotguns.A Winchester/Coory Model 84 and a Winchester/Cooey Model 840.Also have, although not a Cooey in name,but the same gun, a Winchester Model 370 28 gauge.:)

It's too bad you won't use it. I have a couple nice SxS but use an old Cooey 84 12ga as much as those. If I'm just walking bush roads look for grouse on the road, a 12ga with full choke works fine. I've shot more grouse in the last 5yrs with that than both my SxSs combined.

Another thing I like about them is that I don't care it they get beat up a bit on the ATV.

Oh, I'm sure I'll shoot something with it... But, I do like my "repeaters"...
