Hello all,

Just thinking here, would a single shot Cooey action stand the .22 Magnum round? I'm not talking about simply re-chambering the barrel, but re-barreling the action with a barrel in .22 magnum. Seems like one in .22 mag would be quite handy.:sniper:

Thanks all.

22 magnum rechamber

Not a really good idea. The bore / bullet diameter of the .22 rimfire is .222 inches, while the bore /bullet diameter of the .22 Magnum is .224.

This will raise pressures when it is fired. A .22 L.R. rimfire CAN be fired in a .22 magnum chamber, but this is not a good idea either as the case is undersized in the chamber, and can get gas leakage when fired. Accuracy might be affected too, as the bullet has to travel about .4 inches before it reaches the rifling, and is undersized when it does enter the rifling.

Also, the action was not designed for the higher pressures of the .22 Magnum cartridge. Steel in lower priced .22 rifles tends to be ordinary low carbon steel, such as SAE 1020 and can vary quite a bit.

For a small amount of money more than it would cost to convert your rifle, you could probably buy a used .22 Magnum rifle on the EE.

Good lord! I must not have made my question very clear. I have edited the first post to make my question more clear.

However, Buffdog did answer my question with his third paragraph........

I've been told by one of the old gunsmith's that cooey's have a .220-.221 bore, hence their built in accurracy.

There has been several rifles reamed out to 22 mag by a guy from Okotoks. He took model 75 and 22 mag reamer and rechambered for 22 mag. Your post is rebarrel to 22 mag sooooooo yes I see no problem. edit to add open up bolt face!!!!-----Cowboy
