Cooey / Winchester 84/840 return spring

Didn't get any replies in the Gunsmithing section, so I'm posting again here.

Can’t seem to find a return spring in any of the parts diagrams, but when I look down into the receiver it looks like there might be a ridge for one to sit on. Can anyone with experience with these confirm whether or not there should be a return spring on the firing pin on these shotguns?
