This little .22 LR has been made 5 different companies and has been in production since 64, and I love it to death. No it's not the best .22LR nor should it be but I wanted to start a thread for us crazy enough to modd this rifle. I'm currently building a couple of what I call back backers for my daughter and I to use on are trips. I started with cooey 64 receivers, cause I didn't want the BS safety on the B models, I'm swapping out the bolts to use a 64B bolt for more reliable extraction, the magazine will be the metal key shaped variety . I've sourced all the Savage 64 parts to use a promag industries PM 280 folding pistol grip stock. The sights will be Williams fibre optic like found on the Savage64 FSS model. I will be making custom charging handles because I'm a machinist and can easily make them, maybe a few other parts I'm not sure yet.
I can't wait to put it all together. I'm currently waiting on the stocks.
I want to see who else is interested in modding this rifle??

Savage 64's go for real cheap and the fact they are made in canada, makes them all the cooler. Cheap enough to beat around and mod, or generally tinker with and if you screw it up just grab a new one.

Found a picture of an old target... for open sights not bad..... you've got me thinking of changing out my stock now... lol

So recently got to play around with A savage 64f and a Savage a22 a buddy of mine has. I actually thought the stock on the 64f was far superior to the A22. Both guns shot similar, and the magazine is clearly better with the A22. But ya the A22 stock is for sure a cheaper design.

That is a great idea. I love my original 64B but there are definitely a few upgrades I'd love to see to make the rifle extra deadly for the critters causing ruckus in my fields. Please post pics of the finished product.
