Problem : I have a gorgeous model 82 that I wish to fire with a scope but do not want to desecrate an original. So my plan would be to retain the metal in it's original shape and get a barreled action from a model that doesnt have the history of the 82. Bolting on the full wood stock and drilling and tapping the donor action. I have heard that the model 78 is just the same gun without the full wood. Now I'm told that the 75 is the same as the 78, just with regular sights instead of the peep.

Can the resident expert confirm?

I am in the same boat as I got an 82 a few weeks ago. What I am thinking of doing is removing the rear sight as well as the peep sight and bracket. Then making up either a one or two piece rail to mount to these two holes. Talked to one gunsmith here but they want about $200.00 to do this which is too much for me. Just trying to find some time to start on this. Problem is I can't see #### anymore with iron sights and like shooting this gun. I have an idea of using a couple of rings instead of a rail but just need to get the time to do it.

Buy a couple of pieces of rail or one longer length and try it yourself, a little careful measuring and drilling and you are go to go.
Worst thing that could happen is you mess up $20 - $30 worth of rail.
I will check out my #82 and see if I have any ideas or suggestions to add.

If you are interested I have an 82 that has had a SIN number of someone engraved in the action of it, and the stock was used as a doner for another project. If you're interested: Barreled action with bolt. PM me I'll get back to you in a day or so, I don't make it on here as often as I would like anymore!

Here are my thoughts right now :

- Have grooves machined for .22 rings : Don't want to alter the rifle
- Have her drilled and tapped : See above
- I ordered a 12'' picatinny rail from amazon... Thinking about trying to fit it to the rifle... 12$ so I'll try it but I have no skills so.....
- Order a spare receiver and have it drilled : Depends on the price

Other options :

- Mooncoon?
- Try to ''glue'' bases on the receiver with epoxy... Worried about damage to the receiver when I finally decide to take them off. (JBWeld??)

Any recommendations? Or other ideas?

All of the above are true. However, you have to watch with the 75. If you get the Ranger or Sure Shot branded gun it could have a shorter barrel.

My thoughts are a one piece rail would be more stable than a two piece. I only have a six inch one which is not long enough. One about nine inches long would work but the only ones I have seen are over a hundred dollars and I am too cheap to try one of them for first time. Will also need to install a spacer where the peep sight bracket mounts but that's would be easy.

Now that I wouldn't mind drilling holes in for the price. Not sure of the screw thread but would be easy to get both sizes.

This is what one guy did.
