Cooking a Moose steak, what's your favorite?

We used to fry steaks all the time and then just quit in favour of the BBQ for whatever reason but started frying a few again recently. When done correctly they are darned delicious. Just a little seasoning salt and garlic butter on some elk backstraps for us tonight!

One time a bunch of us got together and we tried the charcoal/oak fire and pitch fork method. Everyone brought deer, elk or moose. What a feast.

Being that my group has only ever gotten 1 young bull in the 13 years of chasing Bullwinkle, I have limited experience cooking Moose meat. However, my wife has cooked the few steaks I got last year in a red pasta sauce on low for a few hours. It falls apart with a fork and tastes fannnnntaaaaastic!

Garlic powder, black pepper, a splash of worchestershire on both sides, let sit for 10-15 min, fry in butter in cast iron pan until medium rare (or rare, don't overcook!), add sauteed onions and mushrooms at your leisure. Simple, quick, and fine eatin'! That's how I eat the majority of steaks from wild meat.

Pan hot as hell with butter that is nicely browned in the pan. Season with S&P, put it in and do a nice brown sear on each side. Most importantly TURN DOWN (or even off)THE HEAT and let it cook until desired range. Rare/Med/Done

Cook it to long over high heat and you are chewing boot leather.

all this delicious steak talk has my mouth watering, it's going to be rib-eyes tomorrow night for sure! Sadly it will have to be beef rib-eyes, as I can not get my hands on any moose meat! I got a beef tongue in the slow cooker for tonight. Gotta run to town for some potatoes and Bar supplies, gonna serve baked potatoes with the tongue and French's mustard.

I highly recommend trying this, if you haven't!

My 2 favourite ways to prepare moose (or deer) are very much the same as methods mentioned already. Cast iron pan or charcoal BBQ.

Either way, I keep the seasoning simple and the time very short.
