Cool Find in Old Gunstock

This is not strictly a Milsurp topic, but I did find this in an old Mauser Stock (a "Geha" shotgun stock made up from a M98 Mauser). It was under a loose Geha "Medallion" in a stock I am preparing for "the ugliest sporter in Canada" ("RR" knows what I mean - more to follow in a few weeks ;) ).

Seems a Mr. William Tett of Newboro Ontario wanted to show ownership of the shotgun back in August 1937. I contacted a second cousin of his who lives in the area, and Mr. Tett died just a month ago in Brockville where he passed his final days.

I got a real charge out of this and hope you will too.

That looks like King George V and King George VI on the stamps. Check to see though if it is Edward VII, if so, that would make the 3 cent stamp quite interesting!!
 
That is a very early George VI stamp. I know nothing about stamps, but from the postmark, it should be from the first issue of stamps with his likeness.

Great find....too bad the old boy died before you found the note.

If I remember correctly you should be able to find a date engraved on the stamps near the bottom. It was on left or right side of the word "CENTS" just above the bottom frame or line. It is very small you would have to check with a strong magnifing glass or microscope.

Finding stuff from the past is always interesting tnx for the post

Exceptionally neat find.
The stamps are 2 cent 1935 issue, last of KG V and the 3 cent was the first issue for KG Vl in 1937. Nice pairing, with postmark, and it's history makes it a neat tidbit for sure. Thanks for sharing.
