Hey guys,

Acquired these in a recent trade, and wondered if anyone had seen anything like this before, and if they had any collector value. I've seen mentions of the cartons before, although never seen one personally (pretty sure they aren't that rare yet), but haven't heard of or seen Russian .22s before.

I thought they were pretty neat. :)

Pretty neat stuff, vaguely remember the cartons when I was a kid, but that wasn't very long ago, the Russian stuff is sure neat, I wouldn't shoot any of it, be collectable to some

I have a few cases of the russian. It comes in a type of milk carton as well, but no gable-top. It is accurate but does not function well in many guns

Interesting, steel case .22s... I wonder if they fire well in a regular .22 must be soft/mild steel.

Don't know how they function, about as well as any other Russian ammo I'd suppose, I don't plan on shooting them. They have a waxy feel to them, too - lube I s'pose, and the boxes look to be about as old as the iron curtain. I guess I'll just put 'em away until a collector wants to take 'em in a trade or something. :)

I mostly thought they looked pretty neat, and wanted to share the photo. Thanks for the comments!

I have a brick or two of that Russian Junior ammo.Good and accurate ammo but very dirty.NOT recommended for any semi and not for any handgun.

I use to shoot this way back in 1980s in WZ48 KBKS.Good times :)

I remember shooting russian 22lr out of my dads semiauto cooey when I was a teenager. The first two shots were ok but I thought the third round had exploded with all the smoke that spewed out of the action. It did not because I found the case but we junked the rest of them anyway.

I still have a case of the Russian Junior .22 ammo. It is dirty, greasy and smoky but in a couple of my bolt action .22's it is very accurate. Phil.

I have one of those Remington milk carton 250 round packs. I bought it a couple years ago and thought it was cool so I kept it sealed. I also remember milk cartons of Crosman pellets I used in my air rifles when I was a kid.

I bought a few bricks of the Russian Junior ammo from MilArm in Edmonton 20 years ago. Down to just a few boxes now. Never had even one problem with it. Very accurate, pretty quiet. Just greasy. I'll gladly take any that anybody doesn't want.

I like the the Remington ammo in the milk carton . I have seen the Russian ammo before but have never shot any.I heard from someone once a long time ago that the 22 Russian steel cased ammo is not good for rimfire fireing pins. I would just hang onto it for collector purposes.

I got a half used milk carton of remington around here somewheres, wasn't overly impressed with it - but I got it during the CCI shortage

LOTS of misfires with the Russian steel case.

Not if you use them in a Russian built rifle. I will admit they are a pain in the butt in semi autos such as the 10-22 because they often don't seat properly. In bolt actions such as my Anschutz old Cooeys they do fine as well. Maybe you have a bad lot.

One other thing about those steel cased rounds is that they are covered with lube which can also cause problems with seating.

I remember using those Russian .22 shells in the past.We used to call them "Black Russian"back then. They did have a lot of grease on them, but you could buy them for almost nothing, at the time.
