Cool headed hunters vs. anti hunter woman.

Because she felt she was morally right and that the RCMP would "see it her way" and tell the hunters that it wasn't duck season but wabbit season!

Funny thing though, I can appreciate that she had the balls to confront something she felt was "wrong". She obviously highly values animal life and with a little understanding she might realize the hunters do too.

I wonder as well if her dogs eat organic non meat protein dog food, otherwise she is needlessly slaughter sheep or other animals to feed her dogs, which she doesn't need to keep to survive..... ouch... burn!

As legal and ethical hunters, we have rights and must stand up for them. These guys handled the situation perfectly, I think. If you are harassed, film it if at all possible. Hold your tongue and stay out of the harassers way - do not engage with them at all. Inform them what they are doing is illegal and ask them to very politely to leave. Always report hunter harassment and always press charges. And (if it's not yourself) encourage the landowner to press charges for trespassing. Do you think a nut like that would want to press charges if the hunters were breaking the law? Exactly - enforce your rights with no mercy or regret. The nut cases who thinks its their God given right to trespass and interrupt a hunt must be educated and the police will do that far better than any arguments from us in the field.

I am happy things worked out for the hunters this time! I bet the lady almost shat herself when they laid charges on HER rather then him! I bet she's thinking twice now about ever doing something like that again! Hopefully she tells her fellow anti hunting friends about this law.

But in all honestly I bet she has a Petition going right now to change this law that protect us hunters so we can be attacked? LOL

I have had to deal with many people behaving in the same manner as this whack job. Part of the reason they behave this way is to envoke a negative reaction from you in order to turn the tables and paint you as the aggressor. By remaining calm and collected, not raising your voice, and refraining from displaying any kind of body language that could be interpeted as defensive or aggressive. This just infuriates these types of people further as they are not getting their desired reaction from you and they begin acting even more irrational and when positive witnesses, either people or video, are an important element to your defense for when the person files a complaint, which they usually do, just helps destroy their case. This also helps destroy any credibility for them in the future when they attempt to make complaints.

WINNER!

I learned this from my martial arts instructor years ago. He framed it as that person needing to steal my energy to fuel their anger. He warned us how yes, but destructive, it is to be sucked into their rage. Anyway those guys killed it.

Guys don't try and understand her. Smart people can not understand stupid person logic.

Is there a news report stating that she was actually charged?

In the link it states that "The woman was allegedly charged with interfering with a legal hunt." (I don't understand how she could have been "allegedly" charged. She either was or she wasn't. You'd think the reporter would know which one it was.)

Did I miss it somewhere?

She was charged and fined an undisclosed amount. It was likely very easy to lay the charge as she "called the authorities on herself, and provided her own pictures of the offence"

Glad to the the hunter pressed charges, and kept his cool. Here's the link for the news article-

They handled themselves very well. Dealing with an ignorant and irate individual is not easy, and it can be hard to keep your cool, especially if they were upset at having their hunt ruined.

If cool heads didn't prevail, the charges could have easily gone against the hunters instead of the other way around.

Good story with a happy enough ending.

This. Keep cool and document with a camera if possible.

She received a fine.

Hunting in Ontario is not illegal, but interfering with a hunt is.

“Hunting is a legal activity and it’s highly regulated, more than a lot of activities, in the province of Ontario and people should be aware of that,” said Russell Brandon. “The reason it’s highly regulated is to make it safe and humane for those animals and I don’t believe that’s always fully understood.”

Brandon, the Aylmer-area enforcement manager for the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) confirmed a financial charge was laid against a Ridgetown resident who interfered with a lawful hunt in October.

Rob Seal and Kyle Dittmer were hunting Oct. 13, south of the Ridgetown lagoon ponds on private property when an irate woman approached them on two separate occasions scaring away a flock of geese working their decoys.

“We shot one or two geese. She didn’t like that. She came flying up honking her horn and started yelling,” said Seal. “She ruined any chance of harvesting the birds. No big deal, she said her piece, whatever. We’re going to let it slide that first time.”

An hour later the woman returned, interrupting the hunt, photographing their vehicle licence plates and grabbing at the cellphone Seal was using to video the incident.

Seal can be heard advising the woman she was trespassing on private property and interfering with a legal hunt and would face charges.

The woman questioned why they felt a need to kill the birds and repeatedly told the men she’d called police to report their activities, which Seal encouraged her to do as well as contacting the MNR.

Seal decided to press charges, not out of spite but in hopes it would help educate the woman about the rights of hunters.

The Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act section 13.1 states a person shall not interfere with lawful hunting, trapping or fishing by tampering with traps, nets, bait, firearms, placing themselves in a position that hinders or prevents trapping, hunting or fishing or engages in any activity for the purpose of interfering, disturbing or is likely to disturb, wildlife or fish. The fines can range from a warning up to $25,000 and a year in jail.

Brandon said hunting is also a resource to provide the MNR with invaluable information regarding number and location of species in Ontario.

“I would recommend that they do not themselves approach the hunter. Because the hunter may be carrying out illegal activity,” said Brandon. “Generally they’re not doing something illegal. Generally it’s misunderstandings.”

If people believe they are witnessing illegal hunts Brandon advises them to not stop the activity and get as much information as possible, relaying it to the MNR tip line at 1-877-847-7667, which is manned 24 hours a day. A conservation officer will then be dispatched to deal with the situation.

Education is the key in these situations, said Brandon.

“Hunting is definitely a tool utilized in the conservation of species in Ontario, of wildlife in Ontario,” he said. “They (hunters) are a wealth of biological knowledge for the Ministry of Resources.”

I had a similar incident when hunting with cousins in Norwood area. We were in duck blinds and some lady appeared by the shore yelling and screaming that shooting ducks and geese was illegal and wrong and informed us that the police were called. The police came after the lady left, they saw no illegal activities going on so they left.

police should have brought her in for filing a false police report.

I thought it was amusing that her dogs were friendly with the hunters and it looked like they wanted to play with them and she kept on going back trying to retrieve them....I can only imagine how betrayed she must have felt by her own dogs, lol!

That nutjob reminded me of another nutjob babbling on about her chicken named Snow.

Bravo to the hunters. They were good ambassadors to hunting. You can tell she was looking for a confrontation. Had tbey reacted strongly to her, she would have become the victim. They didn't give her that. Good job fellows. All of us should remain that cool and collected when facing similar circumstances.

Let's just hope that the stupid cow gets a huge fine - then goes on to tell all her PETA mates what a great "goose warrior" she is!

Good work by the hunters - they kept their cool while the lunatic was raving......
