^Not sure, this is from a Life magazine Vietnam era article (November 1964). The soldier's name was: "Gillespie" and there was a photo essay about what his job was there etc.
I got more info on him: Captain Vernon J. Gillespie.
There was also a National Geographic article from February(?) 1965 which was about his involvement in bringing a mutiny of Montagnard soldiers under control.
It seems that Captain Gillespie was a key field commander early in the conflict.

Well, If you cut the barrel at home, yes, if you replace the barrel with a "manufactured, factory" one, it should only be restricted. Though, the law fails to define "manufactured", ie. at some point, someone has to cut a tube; but at which point a tube become a barrel which can no longer be cut ?
eg:
- A takes a non-restricted firearm, A cuts the barrel to 12": prohib'
- A takes a non-restricted firearm, A buys a 12" barrel from B: still non-restricted (?)
but what about
- B takes non-restricted firearm, strips it, cuts the barrel at 12", sells the barrel to A for his firearm: non-restricted ?

I would love to have one of them. Maybe it was the shooters but it didnt seem that accurate. Its like a poor mans Springfield SOCOM.

No, kidding. At 25 yrds he can't see a fresh target from one already shot up? Aside from a weird stance and an even stranger gun, perhaps his eye sight also plays a part in poor marksmanship...or perhaps too many Fosters at the range accounting for everything, including thinking it was a good idea to chop an sks!? (Aussie joke No 1 out of the way)
