As mentioned throat cutting on a dead critter is pointless and if the animal is still alive cutting it's throat can be dangerous, those front hooves can reach your cutting hand and believe me it can be quick and very painful before you even realize what happened.
Long ago I learned to approach downed but still alive animals from the back side and immediately stand on a horn or ear with full weight and then stab the animal between the ribs in the heart area ...horns are immobilized ( the leverage a 200 lb. man can exert on a horn can control a very large animal that is already down and hurt bad) and the hooves can't reach you.

PappaClaude, thanks for that reminder of what my parents did back in the depression days...they spoke of it, but never practised after they lost the farm and as BUM mentioned there are religious considerations as well, but they are a braver man than I offended they wanna practice halal on a still moratally wounded

I dispatched a wounded deer this year with my Swiss army knife. To be honest I tried to finish him of with a 2nd shot from my 270 shooting from the hip at three yards and missed (excited I guess) so seeing as he looked like he wasn't going anywhere soon I got the knife out.
You don't need to "slit" the throat like my dad used to do, just poke him in the jugular vein and make a cut.

I will develop the load till it will pass through a piece 3/8" plywood. Worst case scenario it will knock it out long enough to cut the throat

GaugeMate has a version of their adapters they call Pocket Sniper. Ten inches long, rifled for a variety of pistol cartridges out of a shotgun. So yes, it can be done. They sell them for over US$100, so yomomma will make his own if he can do rifling.
