Cooper magazine trouble

Having trouble with a Cooper rifle in 25-06. When fired, the magazine pops out of the rear catch.

The mag release is on the front of the mag well and it seems to be holding but the rear catch is a piece of spring steel that pops into a groove in the mag when it's slid into the well. Presumably, this system allows the mag to be slid straight up without having to lock it into a solid rear groove and then pivot the front up.

The rear spring looks kind of cheap for a high-dollar rifle. The magazine also has 2mm of forward/backward play in the mag well against this spring which probably doesn't help the situation.

Had anyone else seen this problem? Does anyone think a new magazine might help?

I'll call the distributor tomorrow but am trying to see if this is a one-off problem or not.
 
Propliner. Same trouble with mine. Model 52 in 270 Weatherby. If the mag is full it will fly right out of the gun when fired. if there is just one in the mag and one in the chamber when fired it will unlatch but not fly out. If the mag is empty it stays engaged.
Prophet sent me another to try but it was they wrong one. Still waiting on the replacement. Hopefully shows this week so I can see if this is the fix. Unfortunately I do not have that much faith in a different magazine. I will keep you posted.

This is a model 52 as well. I appreciate the response.
 
Have you done this fix on one Dogleg? I was going to give that a whirl next rather than sending it all back; just to have somebody do the same thing in Montana.

My 30-06 would hold the original and sometimes drop the spare. I never thought of it as big deal, more of an adjustment. You don't even need tools, just a carefully calibrated fingertip.
