Cooper rifles ? Are they worth the extra $$

I'm just waiting for the Model 54 to be offered with a stainless action and then I'm going to buy one. It should look something like this as these were made up for a gun shop in the US. I like this color stock better than the red and black. This one is Cerakoted but gives an idea of what a stainless would be like.

1st cooper

My first cooper is in the mail as we speak,dad has a M52 280AI,so I was lucky enough to try the cooper rifle out last fall.....I liked it! :cheers:

That looks pretty good, I just hope they go with a more polished stainless rather than the bead blasted,cheap-ass look of the Rem SPS.........something more along the lines of the Sendero or CDL SF.

That's very nice!! I can't stand the fugly stainless bbl blued action they have right now.
 
Bearkilr, I guess to each his own. I kind of like the bead blasted finish. It matches the finish on the Leupold scopes nicely. However, that's just my opinion.

Like Deertroy stated, this one is not stainless but rather cerakoted (paint). He only posted it to give us a general idea of what a full stainless Cooper would look like.

Thanks, I did read that part and fully understood. I was just commenting on how that looked like bead blasted stainless and that I hoped they wouldn't offer that particular finish.
 
I just got my Cooper 54 in a lh 260 on Friday and went to the range to-day to sight it in and start load development. I zeroed it and my first group measured .47" with 129 gr sst's.I never really found sst's to be very accurate but I was using them to break in the barrel. I guess I will use that same load next month for dear. I love the rifle. And the 54's are not heavy, just over 6 # but the 52 is.

Alls I can comment on is that I can pretty much afford to buy any of the top custom shop guns offered by US companies today, I ordered a full custom Cooper as my chaoice after relizing the options they can perform. I tryed Remigton customshop and they pretty much said this is what we offer with a few little changes, but would not build what I wanted, Sako was pretty much the same with even a longer wait period and more $$$, Savage can only offer a few options out of there shop,CZ would not even build what I wanted, Winchester pretty much closed there door to custom boltguns nowadays. Copper never said no to what I wanted built, they offer what Winchester shop of the 1950 and 60's would build, wich was whatever the customer wanted pretty much within limits. You will still have quite await if you order a very fancy full optioned gun, around 13 month mine was estimated at, but well worth the wait! cheers Dale Z

Ordered a full Custom Cooper model 57 with all options(express rifle)! should be here in Febuary/March, if you want engraving this will add months onto delivery time!

Oh yah Clay is a great guy to deal with, Thank god for Prophet River!!!

Just placed my order for a lh Jackson Game rifle in 260 Rem a couple of weeks ago. Hope mine shoots as well.

I have a Cooper model 52 Classic chambered in the 280 AI which I purchased from Prophet River. (Clay Smiley is a great dealer-My son and I have purchased three rifles from him already). Many times I have been to the rifle range and many times my Cooper has grouped under sub-moa (three shot groups). The accuracy, fit and finish, action, checkering and balance is excellent!
Now, if there is a downside to it, the gun is robust/a bit on the heavy side.(many hunters don't enjoy hunting with heavy rifles, we do)
My son will be receiving his Cooper model 56 Custom Classic in the mail this week chambered in a 7mm STW. The gun was made with New Zealand Walnut which is a very hard and heavy wood. That rifle by itself will weight in at 8 3/4 pounds.
As you probably know you can purchase a Cooper with a fluted barrel and synthetic stock which will be much lighter than the wood stocks. To answer your question, yes they are worth the money.
If you wish to spend a little less money on a good quality firearm with the same qualities as the Cooper, then purchase a Sako. Good luck!
