Hi Guys

Just breaking in a new barrel and I have some cooper fouling that I just cant get rid of I can see in on a couple of the lands but it won't go away near the muzzle I've used
sweets and wipe out the patches are clean but I can see the copper on some of the lands

Any ideas?

Lou..

Leave the Sweet's in longer. 20-30 minutes... Don't use brass/bronze brushes.

If it is a factory barrel it may never break in and will always be building up a big layer of copper.

If you want to break a barrel in so copper does not build up excessively, all the copper must be removed before proceeding with another shot.

How long did you leave the WipeOut in the bore for? Foam the bore and let it sit overnight. Apply more foam is needed after a few hours. Plug the ends of the barrel with a patch so it does't leak all out.

Some rifles shoot best when they're clean, some get improved accuracy when they have some fouling ie some fouling isn't always a bad thing...

Maynard, mind letting us know the manufacturer of the barrel? Just wondering. I suppose they all have the odd problem tube, it would be nice to know if they'd honour a claim because of the heavy fouling.

How does it actually shoot with the amount of copper fouling you have described? If accuracy hasn't dropped noticeably, it is unnecessary to clean any further. As mentioned, some barrels will shoot worse starting from a completely de-coppered barrel until they have a few fouling shots through them.
