Copper pillar blocks?

Going to pillar bed a Savage in a Boyd stock.

Was going to make pillars out of aluminum, but I found in my stash of goodies some candidates made of copper.

They are about 5/8 outside diameter with a nice 5/32" pilot hole already perfectly centered.

Any reason why they wouldn't work?

Any exposure to bore cleaner is not going to do them any favours.

Aluminum is soft but light. Copper is soft but heavy. Take your pick.

That's something I didn't consider.

Maybe I will spin some out of stainless, our machinist wants to learn to TIG weld so I will trade him for lessons on the lathe and mill.
