Hello Gunnutz,

Recently a friend purchased some czech copper washed surplus from sail burlington. The ammo performs flawlessly in my sks but seems to have a tendency to jam in his cz. To make sure it wasnt his cz malfunctioning i tried the ammo in another cz with the same result. Has anyone had any issues with their cz and this type of ammo? Also is there a way to remedy this situation?

I've never seen or heard of Czech M43 that's copper-washed. Most likely it's Chinese.

What malfunction are you referring to when you say "jam"?

Copper washed case and bullet is Chinese, zinc washed case (can appear green) and copper washed or bi-metal bullet is Russian, polymer coated case and copper washed or bi-metal bullet is Czech, and sometimes Russian. Alternatively, what's the headstamp?

it has a 61 on the top and 69 on the bottom.

There isn't just copper washed Chinese ammo out there I have some lacquered cased stuff

the round wont fully make it into the chamber, the front end of the round gets pushed up into the chamber while the back end remains partially in the magazine.

Are you pulling the charging handle all the way back and letting it fly forward, or are you easing it forward?

Was wondering this myself. My first outing with my 858 I was making the mistake of not letting it slam shut from the full-back position. It was causing this exact same problem. Pull the charging handle back and let it fly forward in one quick motion and you'll probably not have this problem again.

My buddy's 858 wouldn't shoot his brass cased stuff he bought (same jam as op) so i brought out my sks and my 858 and it worked flawlessly in the sks but sure enough it jammed up 858. You could see where the brass was catching and getting gouged by the feed ramp. My guess is the metal (in the case) is just too soft and the rifle was designed to feed just steel cased ammo. I guess some guys get lucky and their rifle feeds brass all day long, but for me and my buddy we buy steel only now! Haha

Copper washed Chinese ammo is excellent. I've fired thousands of rounds of it through my 858. All I remember is that you really have to let the cocking handle fly or you'll get the same kind of malfunction you describe.

Alternatively, maybe you have lacquer buildup in your chamber?
