Hi everyone
Any recommendations on where to take the COURE hunter education course? I'm in BC (lower mainland)
So far the options are Silvercore, EatWild or taking the course online
Thanks

Where you take the course is much less important than from whom you learn to hunt. The course doesn't teach you how to gut a beastie or where is the best place to get on the game. If you already have those skills or people that can point you true, you are well on your way.

I just challenged the exam. Cabelas in Abby do the course and exams and I just went out there and wrote the exam. Easy Peasy and I've never hunted. My take is what has been said already is getting an experienced hunter to teach/mentor you is the most important thing.

Any of those places run youth classes? My daughter will be 10 next year and I’d like her to attend a classes with other kids around her age.

1. Take the course online.
2. Challenge the exam (Silvercore does this)
3. Find someone who actually knows what they’re doing and go with them.

I also challenged the test. Cost me like $11 at Silver Core to write the test, got the book online for free (its not normally free but I found a pdf of it online). Already had my Pal so no need to do the hands on firearms part. If you've got a basic understanding of outdoors/survival skills I would highly recommend this.

One thing I've noticed from my friends who took the course was the guys teaching it gave them a bunch of bad info. The one that I specifically remember is my friend was told that having ammo in a butt stock shell holder counts as loaded, which would mean you can't have ammo in one while in the car (this is absolutely wrong, it doesn't count as a loaded firearm...) I recall there being other things too, but I can't remember what other bull#### they were fed...

Another vote for Brian at BC outdoor education. You’ll get more then just the course material from him. He knows the local hunting scene and is more than willing to share. He’s put on a few talks at our local club and his info has been invaluable. I’m sure you’d get more then just the CORE with his classes.
