Reading an article in todays Waterloo Record.

Cormorants are to be shot at Luther Marsh as they threaten native wildlife and a licensed trapper is being employed to carry out this task (though I would volunteer! )
The article quotes that Cormorants are a non-game species and cannot be hunted.... Why not???
Whats the difference between gophors/crows/coyotes etc.
Does anyone have an opinion on this and how the law could be changed to control this plague?

Most people forget too that DCC were indigenous to the L. Ontario area until we destroyed their numbers when we used DDT. There were also declines of Bald Eagle, and Osprey, however as well the presence of DCC also presents a positive since they are only found in areas where there is good water quality. But alas we created the problem by taking out the major predators in the Great Lakes therefore exploding their population (lots of baitfish) and now there are too many. But they are suffering nesting failures because the food is not available...same cycle as the Lynx and Hare........

Cormorants are like any other wildlife that needs to be managed for numbers.
They are seriously over populated in many areas right now... and if the numbers are not brought down you will see them become open season soon enough.

I'm still waiting for the spring bear cull to return. More and more people I know are planing on breaking the law and taking loaded firearms with them into the woods.

Why cant we get a provincial goverment that doesn't have their heads up their ass on issues like these????????

The politicians are running the show... Politcal Expediency is not good biology.

You mean tree hugging, granola crunching, fema-nazi lobby groups are forcing our less then adequate goverment to make decisions just to shut them up!!!

I'm guessing they're protected under Migratory Bird Act, like seagulls? I know fishermen sure hate them. Stinky black ugly slimy snake fish crow.
