Correct antique storage and transport

If you have a prescribed antique, either rifle or pistol, what is the legal way to store this gun? I was under the impression as they were not firearms they may be stored unlocked, and unloaded.

well for transport you dont need a lock on it , and you have to keep it unloaded (long arm)
they also say if you not in the car you should hide the gun..

for hand guns you need to keep it in a good locked box , or in a locked pistol case out of site.

now for storeing them. i would stay keep them the same way that you would transport them.

also keeping you antique handgun in your glove box it not going to work (even if your govebox locks,)

It says right on the RCMP letter you get with an antique that "an antique firearm is still a firearm and therefore all the storage ,display,transportation and handling of firearms by individuals do apply"

I think of it like it is the exact same as any other gun except you don't need to register it or have a license(PAL ,POL or RPAL).

I would not push my luck but my understanding of the storage rules for antiques is that they must be stored in such a way as to prevent theft. I am almost certain this goes for antique long arms but I am not so sure of how it applies to handguns (I have never taken the time to find this out).

I know you do NOT need a ATT for an antique handgun so I guess the RCMP advice that "an antique firearm is still a firearm and therefore all the storage ,display,transportation and handling of firearms by individuals do apply" is not totaly correct.

Again it never hurts to excede requirements that way you are not caught short and really nobody wants their guns stolen anyhow.
