I can't find any non corrosive where I live but there is lots of corrosive cheap. I just need to know how far do you go when cleaning your red rifles. I have the following that will be using corrosive ammo:
sks
vz58
svt-40
mosin nagant.

I was thinking on spraying wipe out down the barrel and taking apart the gas tubes and spraying them down and wiping them clean and taking the bolt out and cleaning the parts and springs. also wipe the magazine out as best i can. anything else need cleaning?

For semi-auto, clean gas tube, piston, bolt face barrel and gas port(on a SVT the gas regulator need to be cleaned too),on bolt action rifle, barrel and bolt face are eough. You dont need to disassembly the bolt in littles pieces for cleaning each time you shoot(SVT,SKS) once in a while are enough.

I do it anyway on my SKS as I don't want the firing pin to rust up and it takes under 1min to take apart and put together if you don't rush the job.

Clean the snot out of it. I had a patch of rust develop on the bottom of my SKS bolt. Take it out and wipe it down every time is my recommendation. Go through the entire gas system too. I try not to shoot corrosive in my SVT anymore as I find it a bit of a pain to clean, if you're gonna do it just be thorough. Happy shooting, there's little in life that's as much fun as an SKS and 1400 rounds of 70's vintage Czech.

yeah, i drop the bolt (disassembled), gas piston, and extension into a container of hot water...i rinse the chamber, gas tube, bore and gas port with a funnel and cup using the same hot water, then i wipe the receiver down. i find the trigger group doesn't seem to require a lot of attention, at first i cleaned everything to a compulsive degree, but i've since realised it's not super critical. I do inspect the condition still almost daily, until i can trust it to sit out of mind for a longer period of time. just be sure to dry it well and stored oiled. wipe dry before shooting. for plinking, surplus ammo is where it's at...i have a lot of corrosive ammo, a couple boxes of non-corrosive for comparison, and a box of soft point, which should last me longer than a crate of surplus, lol.

It's also a great way to inspect your gun and catch safety issues...

When shooting corrosive ammo, the following needs to be cleaned when you get home

1) the barrel
2) gas piston(s) and gas tube
3) bolt should be disassembled and cleaned

Failure to do any of this could result in your barrel, gas piston and tube, and bolt/firing pin rusting to the point of unusability. Not good.

If you soak the parts in boiling water wouldn't it make it rust if you don't get every nook and cranny dry?

Boiling water heats it up so the water evaporates and gets dry quickly... If you wanna get REAL anal about it, boiling water, let dry for 15min, blow out with compressed air. Unnecessary... Here's how it works in my case:

1) Everything gets washed in boiling water, sits for 2min
2) As I'm taking things out quickly wipe them with an old t, from the outside and just put'em on my gun-cleaning towel
3) By the time I'm done cleaning the bore, can't see a droplet of water ANYWHERE

take it apart every time a full clean first with Windex the ammonia is great for the corrosive salts.

The concentration of ammonia in Windex is so low it won't neutralize anything. Counting on it to neutralize corrosive salts is like counting on a CFL bulb to heat your home. The biggest benefit to using Windex is the water

Even if you use pure ammonia, the potassium chloride salts simply do not dissolve in ammonia.

Solubility of KCl in various solvents (grams of KCl per 1 kg of solvent at 25°C)
H2O 360 grams
Liquid ammonia 0.4 gram

Just wondering if someone could post some pictures of parts that are ruined from shooting corrosive ammo and not cleaning properly after. I have never had a problem even after letting sitting for a month or two.

I went out today and shot 20-30 rounds and i took her apart and cleaned everything. Firing pin and all to be safe. If you gonna invest in something might aswell look after it
