Corrosive ammo cleaning...help.

These days, I personally will spray it down with G96 at the range, case it, and go home and then field strip and clean when I feel like it, usually a few days later. I also leave the bolt and gas portion of the gun as dry as possible, since any lube in those areas just makes crud formation possible (so they say).

This is the basis of my question; and most likely I am just one of the "over-thinkers" because the SKS is the newest firearm in my collection.

I was liking the idea of WD-40 or Windex because I was getting the impression that you must clean your gun immediately after shooting. Is this the case? It shouldn't rust if I leave it for a few hours after shooting, right? or Wrong?

If I don't have to give it a spray down right away, that perfect because I normally clean my firearms the night after shooting. Kind of an after-dinner wind-down time for me (Some people read or knit... I clean my guns )

Cheers

It makes flushing the bore, etc, very mess free :).

That device reminds me a hospitals in Sovet Union :) :) :)

Your rifle can wait 1 or 2 days, no problems. If there rust, will be only surface rust and will clean easily. Peoples should stop thinking that shooting corrosive ammos will destroy the rifle in less than 24 hours......

Much appreciated, thanks. With all the reading I'd done it had only said "CLEAN YOUR GUN AFTER FIRING CORROSIVE AMMO OR IT WILL RUST" but without a time frame

Thanks for the clarification
Cheers!

Im assuming that when boiling water is used the wooden stock and handguard are taken off before and cleaned with a simple wipe down? Everything else gets the boiling water, followed by solvent, patches, oil and grease? (oil and grease where needed of course)
