i have norinco m14 and i have a bunch of 308 surplus that is corrosive was wondering if i should use it in this gun

Corrosive 7.62 NATO ? Really? What year and manufacturer?

Anyway, if you got it, sure shoot it in anything you've got that fits.

Corrosive ammo doesn't rot the steel, it just releases a tiny puff of salt that deposits in the barrel and gas system. This tiny bit of salt will cause corrosion if you leave it too long and it's exposed to a moist (even slightly moist) enviroment. If it's kept very dry (think Arizona desert), it can be left for years.

If you clean it properly shortly after shooting, it doesn't cause any more damage to your gun(s) than non-corrosive ammo.

thanks thats great its 1983 sellier and bellot

S&B ammo made for military applications, especially Warsaw Pact ammo, used corrosive primers because of (suposedly) superior storage life.
I'm pretty sure all their commercial production since the 70's has been non-corrosive.

I shoot corrosive ammo in my CZ858 and my SKS all the time,,,just like the others have stated,,give your rifle a good cleaning after shooting and it'll be fine.....Wishing we could get some cheap surplus rounds for my M-14 these days!!!!

The only issue I have with shooting corrosive in an M14 is that the system is not designed to have the gas tube plug removed with any regularity. It can lead to the gas system coming off-kilter with the barrel.
Also you don't really have easy access to the gas port like you do on sks/vz58/ak designs. On the others it's easy to get in there with a pipe cleaner or toothpick to make sure there are no salts in it, I'd be worried about it rusting on the M14. I've had it rust up on my SKS even after cleaning the barrel and gas tube, just forgetting to get in there with some solvent, not a pretty picture.

...Also you don't really have easy access to the gas port...

Sure you do. You don't even need to pull the rifle out of the stock.
Take out the piston, flip your gun over so that the sights are on the bottom, and have a look at the gas cylinder, See that hole just to the muzzle side of the "lip" on the bottom of the cylinder?
Stick a nice straight pipecleaner into the hole and look down the muzzle!

Oh that's what that hole is for.
I thought it was a gas bleed for excess pressure and didn't realize it lined up with the barrel vent.
Maybe I'll try some of that czech corrosive myself.

Corrosive Ammo

Well friends,,,,I picked up my M-14 today,,,bought some surplus ammo from a fellow Gun Nutr yesterday and the family and I are going to take it up the mountain tomorrow to try it out... From what I can see the rifle seems to be very well machined and of quality workmanship,,the only down side that I can spot is the Flash Suppressor grooves seem to have been ground out by a underpaid/hung-over/I hate guns/I hate life worker that rushed the job.
Cheers

Driver what importer marks are on that one? Are they on the left side of receiver?:)

Quote bought some surplus ammo from a fellow Gun Nutr yesterday Quote

Just to let you guys know he bought the Surplus Czech 7.62X51 from me. I still have some in stock.
Regards, Henry

"...a pipe cleaner or toothpick..." Those won't do anything. A simple flushing with plain hot water followed by normal cleaning will though. Corrosively primed ammo is more of a nuisance than anything else.
"...Does the Czech military use 7.62x51?..." No.
