Corrosive Ammo Question

I have seen lots of threads on cleaning after corrosive ammo is used, but I have never seen this asked.

I will be shooting some surplus ammo in my Yugo M-48BO this year and am wondering if shooting a couple rounds of commercial non-corrosive ammo at the end of the day will help with cleaning out the bore and removing the salts?

A second question is how much cleaning of the action and bolt are needed after a session with the surplus ammo? A gas operated semi I can see needing at least a field strip, but how about a Mauser bolt action? I plan to pull the bolt every time to clean the residue out as well as wiping down the mag follower and trigger where it catches the striker on the bolt. Should I be pulling the action out of the stock as well every time, or every second time to clean out the trigger group completely?

Thanks,
Mark

I havnt found it necessary to take the rifle out of the stock after shooting corrosive. For a bolt action clean the barrel, the bolt, chamber, and the reciever. Like Pig4000 said, anything exposed to gas. I find firing off a few non corrosive rounds after the corrosive ones helps a little bit, but not enough in justifying the $1.25+ per round if your buying them just for that reason

I use my Enfield funnel to pour a kettle of boiling water down the bore into a pail shortly after range time. Then continue on with Hoppes, CLP, etc.

Primer salts are soluble in water,so that is your solvent of choice. By all means follow up with Hoppes and brushing followed by oil. With a bolt gun, just clean the chamber and the bolt face in addition to the bore. To be on the safe side I'd re-clean the bore a couple of days later.

"...wondering if..." Nope. The primer salts get into the wee cracks(perfectly normal) in the barrel. Just dump a kettle of almost boiling water(goose necked funnel) into the barrel then clean as per normal.
