I was showing a friend some of my rifles the other day. Picked up a nice little Zastava 7.62x39. :( Noticed a bit of rust on the rings. Barrel interior was also rusty. f:P: Must have been shooting some corrosive surplus and forgot to clean it.

No lectures please on how it should be done. In the process now of cleaning up the mess.

Corrosive ammo!

Yikes! I put my little Zastava M85 away and forgot to clean it. Rust in the bore. Cleaning it now. Dumba$$.

Awww man, sorry to hear it! Hope it comes out okay and still works fine!

When not actually cleaning, at least a spray of ballistol does the trick!

I had it happen with my Rashid. Lucky I checked it two days after shooting corrosive in it. I was really worried but no harm done, cleaned up nicely. Now if I am not sure if it’s corrosive I clean as soon as I get home. I ended up buying a few thousand rounds of non corrosive so should be good for awhile.

I forgot to clean my Brown Bess for several weeks after shooting. Lucking it didn’t cause pits and a shotgun rod chucked in a hand drill took the chunky crud out. Now part my of range kit is a small spritzer bottle full of ballistol, water, and isopropyl alcohol. Every gun shooting BP or corrosive gets a few shots down the bore followed by a patch before leaving the range. Happens to the best of us!
