Corrosive bs. Non-Corrosive Ammo

In the meantime, I have found a vendor on Vancouver Island that has never-issued laminated stock Russian SKS's for $250.

First of all, you should know that there are very few non-refurbed Soviet SKSs that have laminated stocks. The reason being that they only used laminated stocks on some 1955/56 model SKSs.

If its a 1954 or earlier, and has a laminated stock... then it IS a refurb, and has been issued in the past. There were a lot of surplus laminate stocks left over that were later put on refurbed SKSs. In other words... new stocks on used rifles.

Secondly, for the purposes of shooting, don't make a big deal about unissued or non-refurb. Refurbed SKSs are every bit as nice, and often nicer, than un-issued SKSs.

I know how to read and thats FORSURE. Just cause it says NON corrosive doesnt mean it is. I have the same crates at home and there CORROSIVE.

Well, that's first I have heard on the rampant misinformation regarding "non" corrosive. Thanks for the heads up! I guess I'm feeling a bit gyped, as I bought a tin of that very same Chinese ammo from Lever. Cost me a fair bit more than the real corrosive stuff that I got from Westrifle....

SOME 7.62x39 surplus is non-corrosive, actually. I believe the Chinese started to switching to non-corrosive primers in the 1970's. I have some 1971 Chinese 7.62x39 surplus that is corrosive, but I've fired 76 headstamped stuff that wasn't.

If your Chinese ammo was marketed as non-corrosive and from a reputable dealer, there's a good chance it is indeed non-corrosive.

Double check if they have all matching numbers.
When I bought mine from them it was not.
You can buy all matching from another sponsor and get the ammo anywhere else.
Check lebaron, the crate with 1320 rounds and a russian is cheaper than 500.00 on their web specials page. I think 200 for the crate and 180 for the rifle.

I'm switching to non-corrosive, as I don't shoot that much and the less worry of rust, the better for me. If you shoot a lot, get corrosive and clean it after every use. I've done it, just don't shoot that much.
