Corrosive vs non corrosive 7.62x39

The SKS is a dirty Russian trollop that likes it ROUGH. She loves the feel of that dirty steel jacket corrosive ammo slamming bolt deep in her chamber leaving that filth all the way through her bore. When your finished slapping her about, hose her down, slather her in oil and chain her in the corner of your basement till you're ready to take her out and slap her jiggly butt around the next time. ;)

This is by far the best way I have ever heard of how to use a milsurp rifle.

Now do the Lee Enfield...haha

I'm on the other side to most of the people here. I only want non corrosive. I go through lots of x39 ammo, and I expect one of my SKS rifles to go at least 1000 rounds in between cleaning, so it's non corrosive for me. If someone was an occasional shooter then corrosive can save some money and cleaning after an occasional range outing is no big deal.

Corrosives only a real problem if you leave it without cleaning for more than a week. When we go innawoods, we use corrosive all the time, and do a proper clean once once we are outtawoods. Never had any issues.

So long as it's cleaned properly in a reasonable amount of time, corrosive is just as good as non.

That depends on the humidity levels in the air. At around 50% humidity, it will begin rusting immediately. Below that, it will not rust. What does this is the Potassium Chlorate in the primers denatures to Potassium Chloride (a type of salt) during combustion, and this coats the inside of the bore and gas system with salt. The salt itself does not corrode the bore, but it does attract water, and this is what leads to the sometimes instantaneous (but also sometimes delayed) rusting from corrosive ammo.

I agree but for different reasons. I rarely shoot my SKS, and when I do, it is relatively few rounds, so the price difference is negligible for me (a few dollars a box over what might be a half dozen boxes every year).
