:evil:Well gents I just thought today that I would play "devil's advocate" to this seemingly endless question....

Why, if corrosive ammo is SOOOO bad, was it used, ever. I know for us collector and shooter types it seems sacriligeous to even contemplate its use yet millions of surplus rifles still exist, with rifling intact that were once fed nothing but?

I for one see nothing wrong with milsurp ammo, corrosive or not. A little discipline coupled with a proper mil-spec cleaning job and its not a problem.

What do you guys think, is this an overblown subject???

I was used because it's cheaper. Non corrosive ammo is more expensive.

Combining that with the natural psychotic obsession with most modern armies to keep the rifle or carbine clean at all times mitigated the damage caused by salts from corrosive ammo.

If you take care of your weapons system, it's not a problem.

Which is why my 50 year old Czech M43 goes bang at -25.

i have 7.62x54R surplus from 1943 and ive never had a misfire....

corrosive ammo isisnt bad for your gun at all...UNLESS!!....you don';t clean properly after shooting it most miltary rifles were taken fairly good care of (the bore and action at least) when being used so there isisnt much corrosion in many military rifles....

it also lasts longer as stated already....;)

i clean well after every shooting session.i do not care about corrosive, non corrosive as long as it is in bulk ,affordable and works well .the stuff i have been getting works perfect.s&b good grouping and every single round went bang.i am happy we can get it!
