My neighbor's dog dish gets hit hard by the magpies around here so I thought I would try to bait them. I made this bait container out of plywood and some 2x4 that was stripped on a table saw. I stapled the mesh on and can pull it back on the one end to refill it. I'm trying some large dog treats thinking that the magpies will have to work at breaking them up to get out chunks and it will give me more time to look at them. If they take out all the small pieces of dog food and leave the large treats I will go to a smaller mesh and use dog food only. This contraption will be screwed dawn onto a fence post. I had it filled once with bread crumbs and dog food (no mesh) and they cleaned it up pretty fast.
