Hi was wondering if anyone knows how to make cosmoline.ive done a internet search and didnt realy come up with anything

You can actually buy the stuff. It's just not call cosmelene. We use it in top of machined platforms for large electric motors so the surface doesn't rust. Comes in a pail and also a spray can. Wet for a while but dries up in a day or two. Acklands grainger or Gregg distrubters carries it. Smells just like the stuff on my rifles.

Q. We usually hear about getting it off not putting it on. Long term storage. ?

If I'm not mistaken, it's just a mix of heavy grease and wax, if you really wanted to brew your own.

You might consider RIG (Rust Inhibiting Grease), which is now sold by Birchwood Casey, for the same applications as Cosmolene. Its a lot less messy and easier to apply and remove, and does the same job. I treated all of my guns with RIG before putting them in long term storage for 3 yrs and they were just fine.

Good tip thanks

Unless you need several gallons of it, then it would probably be a lot cheaper and more convenient to look at some of the alternatives here that Members have mentioned and recommended.
