I cant seem to find a thread on this, but is there an efficient way of removing cosmoline without using boiling water? If so can someone link a thread to it?

Why wouldn't you use hot water? Its cheap and effective.

Sure - a wallpaper tray full of mineral spirits or varsol. Insert rifle, let soak, then scrub.

I've used vehicle drip trays and plain old gasoline to de - cosmo a bunch of AKs before; it was very very efficient, but I'd sure not want to do it again.

Take the stock off and wrap all parts in paper towel, then newspaper, and place it in a black garbage bag on the dashboard of an old car. The heat will completely ooze it out in a few hot days. Use lots of newspaper and paper towels..

When I did my stock (just the stock), I wrapped it in layers of paper towel, then wrapped it in tin foil. I then put it in the oven (oven must be big enough) and set it on 250 degrees (wood combusts at about 570 degrees) for 30-45 minutes. Remove and carefully unwrap tin foil (so you can use it again), remove cosmoline soaked paper towels, wrap again in clean paper towel and the tin foil, and do it again for 30-45 minutes. Repeat until you're happy.
