Hello I was wondering if I should remove all the cosmoline in my sks before firing it? Also I have some rem oil can i use that to oil it up?

Thanks

Hot water and mineral Spirit that's it for cleaning.

For oil, just take your favorite gun oil. Rem oil is à very light oil, I recomend Another oil, but it'll work anyway.

I just disassembled my SKS, then soaked all the parts in mineral spirits for about 20 minutes. Cosmoline just disappeared. A little bit of brake clean or gun scrubber for the more stubborn parts. Not nearly the scary undertaking I initially thought.

I wouldn't recommend it.. It evaporates to nothing under the heat generated by a semi-auto. You'd be better off using synthetic motor oil if you have that. If not, just go out and buy some Break Free CLP. For bore cleaning, Hoppes #9 is still the best. Don't lubricate the firing pin, by the way.

O really thats how I was gonna clean it?... just joking cool ya its a bit light Il pick up some other lube soon times, some hopps I guess?

YES! For your safety! With cosmoline in the bolt, it could go auto on you & well, that's NOT good!

I use a bucket with 4 liters of varsol. Take the gun apart & put all the metal parts in the bucket of varsol. Once it's disolved, oil it up with CLP or something simular & reassemble.

Go to the range & ENJOY!

Cheers
