Cost effective AR 15 (Mostly for the sake of grandfathering)

I have 3 S&W MP Sport. Rebarreled 2 of them after about 10k rounds each as they were keyholing. They function fine and only needed some small parts like extractors replaced. Norinco are not as spiffy but will take a beating. I have one with 15k round through it.

I’m pretty interested in how those SIG rifles stack up. Seem to be a good deal and presumably decent quality?

Purchase a lower because if something should happen to the AR then your complete rifle will suffer that fate. If you build a lower with components then just the lower is at risk until the Liberals are voted out office.

Having a “grandfathered” rifle or “prohibited” licence doesn’t make you “cool”. I remember people getting all excited about having a prohib licence... it won’t raise your status in the gun community.

Just saying. ;)

Tenda had Mossberg MMR's for $699 on Boxing day.... then the price rose to $899 by the 27th when I looked again. Such a good deal on a nice rifle. Still the M&P looks nice, one did explode at the range with a shooter who has just bought one and was using some .223 reloads in it. He was a very experienced reloader but may have made a mistake or simply something happened that made the rifle explode (with fortunately know one injured)

Trebor gets it. It's right in the thread title, isn't it?

That's hoping they go with grandfathering. The way the Lieberals have been pissing money away they just might go with a buyback.

Grandfathering applies to you and your firearms. Grandfathering, insofar as C71 is concerned, has nothing to do with your children. If they aren’t the currently registered owner or holder of a prohib license, then those firearms are like dust in the wind, they don’t keep getting passed along to subsequent generations.

It's political suicide for a politician, or it's party, to make any change to the AR classification, unless it's to prohib., or outright confiscated.
You know it, the media knows it, and the antis know, that it's the number one killer of the private citizen's gun world.

Under the current rules this is correct. C-71 isn't what worries me, it's whatever prohibitions they come up with afterwards. New prohibitions will have to come with new rules, which could also include clauses similar to this:

If the deceased individual had prohibited privileges on his or her licence, prohibited firearms in the estate can be transferred to certain family members even if they do not have grandfathered privileges, providing:
- the prohibited firearm is a grandfathered handgun described in subsection 12(6.1) of the Firearms Act, with a barrel equal to or less than 105 mm in length or designed or adapted to discharge .25 or .32 caliber cartridges; and
- the prohibited handgun was manufactured before 1946; and
- the individual is the spouse, common-law partner, brother, sister, child or grandchild of the deceased registered owner; and
- the handgun is used for a permitted purpose such as target shooting or as part of a collection.

This is what they did for handguns then. We'll see what the do for other firearms they fancy prohibiting.

What could you guys recommend for shorter barrel AR’s? Does Norinco with 10 or 14 inch barrel worth it or is there any other options in that price range?
