Cost effective rimfire scope?

I had a Simmons Mag44 that was included with a rifle I bought. It failed the second time out. The reticle had more jiggle than a peeler bar.

I removed it from the rifle and have plans on shooting that scope. See if I can recreate a Carlos Hathcock sniper shot!!! That's the best use for a Simmons scope. I could even have forgiven the piss poor glass quality which made you think you were Jaque Cousteau on an underwater expedition if the scope at least worked. But it didn't.

It's a rich man that buys cheap scopes. The least expensive scope I even consider are the Burris Fullfield line. For anything higher in magnification I pay more. It's worth it in the long run and actually cheaper.

I can't agree with you more! I learned the hard way. Granted I did sell the scopes at roughly 80% retail, that means 5 scopes between $100 and $300 means a loss of $140-$160.
I'm just trying to save the OP some money!
Ontop of that look at 4scopes.com
I saved over $200 after shipping/taxs/customs on my sightron!
It pays to shop around.

I bought a Ruger 10/22 Target a few months back that came with a cheap 9x Bushnell and I am having similar issues; I can hit a good cluster at 200+ but can't see jack without sending at least 5 shots down range. Gets a little frustrating making adjustments after that many rounds.
Alternatively, would buying an inexpensive set of binoculars be worth it instead? Can anyone recommend a set?

Plenty of inexpensive spotting scopes will view well at 200 yards. Celestron a
has a beauty 12-36x for right around $110 called a landscout. FS

I bought a Bushnell 3-9x rimfire scope last year to put on a "loaner" .22 I keep for visitors and kids to use when they come shooting with me. It's no Leupold or Swarovski but the optics are noticeably clearer and sharper and no image distortion around the outside edges compared to Leapers, NC Star, and other bottom end scopes I looked at.

Since then it's seen some fairly rough use without any problems. It is a perfectly usable scope for casual plinking and small game hunting.

my old cooey has a bushnell banner dusk & dawn 4-12x40; multi x reticle, its a great little scope, at $120 it certainly doesnt break the bank but at the same time its not relegated to my .22 collection. I can pull it off and mount it to one of my other rifles if I so choose. Its cheap , versatile, and works quite well. In fact it beat out a budget spotting scope on the 100/200yd range this past weekend, prompting an immediate return of said spotter.
If you check out my post on the last page of the cooey restoration thread under the rimfire section you can see the scope Im talking about

Have the same one on a Ruger 10/22 works great..mostly at 100

More awesomeness fron Edmonton! I'm guessing you don't own an acreage or farmland, much less shoot over 50yds.
Seeing a 2"x4" target at 200 yds, imo need mag.
Infact I'm calling you out on it, when your down near Calgary message me, I'd like to see you hit even 50% of the tagets with less than 24x

That much magnification on a 22 is totally stupid.

I just picked up a Scorpion Optics rimfire scope and for the price couldn't be happier (I did need to purchase rings for it as the supplied ones were not weaver/picatinny).
There is a reseller on the EE,

I have the same scope mounted on my 795. Works just great. Optics are nice and clear.

And I know what you mean about budget spotting scopes. I bought one of those Bushmaster things that were on sale at CT for $50. I fugured, "how bad can it be?" Well, really bad. Couldn't return it to the store fast enough. Right now I'm looking for a good monocular in the 10-12 power range.

But, yeah, to the OP, the Bushnell Banner 4-12 works great on my 795. Best rimfire scope I could find for the price. The 795 is an awesome little gun.

haha I bought that exact same scope! I shld have known better, but my curiosity got the better of me, I figured if was suitable for 100/200 I'd keep it just to have one around untill I save up for a quality one should I get into precision shooting. took it back on my way home that night. 60x mag and my scope at 12x was still miles ahead.

I had a 6-24x, then upgraded to 10-40x. Maybe it's just me but I like seeing my bullet holes though the scope and not having to swap back and forth between the gun and spotting scope. Plus less to carry/set up. If you add the cost of a spotting scope and gun scope, you can get a real nice scope.
The other reason for having a nice scope is you'll have it for any of your guns.
I have found if you buy cheap, you tend to buy alot. I now know why most says, save your money, buy mid-top range scope amd you'll only have to buy once.

That makes good sense, especially for the rifles I use at the range. For my hunting needs, a 3X9 is more than adequate.

Have another 4-12 on a Ruger semi SS works well

Are you serious?

I regularly shoot 200 yards. A 9x scope is all that's required. A 9x scope makes a target at 200 yards appear to be 22 yards away with iron sights. Do you mean to tell me that you can't hit a 2" target with iron sights at 22 yards?!

A 24x scope would make a 200 yard target appear to be what? 8 yards away.... You need something to be that close to hit it?

Of course, people with real field experience know that anything over about ten magnification and your movements are so exaggerated that it becomes distracting and hard to see. Not to mention the cost that would've required to get a scope with any kind of clarity at that magnification.

Sir, you would be very, very disappointed. Some marksment regularly practice with iron sights at various ranges. You will find that precision to 200 yards requires zero magnification for some, just an aperture on a sliding ramp. ;)

The BSA scopes with AO (adjustable objective) in 3-10x are designed for centre fire, but are excellent for rim fire. I have one on my 10/22 and can adjust parallax from 10 yards to ~. Wanstalls used to carry them for just under $100. After 1,000s of rounds I see no need to change a thing.

I'm calling both of you out!
Yes with a high power rifle the bullet doesn't drop or drift much.
200+yds, hitting ram and turkey targets basically a popcan sized target is tough with a 22!
I'm laying down a $20 9x max 200yds, come prove me wrong!
